FYI

Kind of how I feel at the moment
The coming weeks are going to be hectic, so I'm giving you all a heads up that I probably won't be blogging much. I technically don't start my new job until this Friday but I'm already doing some paperwork for it. Things I took for granted I now have to work to get, like phones. It took me two tours of my new space to realize there are no phones! My new space is one floor below my old space and my legs have been getting a stairs workout! And, it will continue, since I'll also still be doing some work for my old boss over the next couple of weeks.

Rest assured I am still following Paleo eating with some pretty good success. I still am going to CrossFit 2-3 times a week. And, still running 3 times a week. My running is not as far along as I would like and I'm not sure where that puts me for a spring marathon. I haven't added biking or swimming back yet. Mostly, because everything is in chaos and I just don't have it in me to add more to the storm. Once I get my basement back in working order (2 weeks?) and get comfy in the new job, I'll put it back in.

Slight Food Issues

First, let me say that I'm down another 3 pounds!! That's 6 in 2.5 weeks. I haven't lost that much that fast in 5 years!

Second, I'm very proud of the fact that I made it to Crossfit today. It takes dedication to get out of a warm, cozy bed on a -10degree (windchill) morning just to go to the gym for an hour.

Third,......

I have known for a long time that I have some food issues. I hate when things touch. If it's runny, it gets a bowl. I eat my food one item at a time. And, I usually eat in a clockwise direction around my plate. One of the best Christmas gifts I got was from my sister and were 4 tiny 1/2 cup bowls. The only thing better would be a divided plate!

P.S. I realize there are way worse food issues and I'm lucky this is my only one.

Productive but not in the "Beast Way" Weekend

Much farther along, almost ready for paint!
This past weekend I worked muscles I haven't worked in a long time. I did things that I've never done before. Each night after a long day of "work" I laid in bed and thought, "This is the best bed in the whole wide world!" I am still sore today from things I did on Saturday. And none of this includes running, crossfit or training for some far away race.

I BUILT A WALL, Y'ALL!!!

Or, my dad built the wall and held things up for him and handed him tools. We've discovered that I am great at driving nails on the ground but not so much while standing up.... or over head. I also suck at hanging drywall. It's a good thing my dad helped me with this project, cause if I did it myself there would be a ton of gaps, "Eh, it's good enough. This is a basement."  All in all it was fun to build something with my dad and spend some time with him. And I'm not going to lie, it was pretty great to increase the value of my house. I learned a lot in case I ever have to do this again. Which, will probably be in a couple of years when I get money together to finish the upstairs.

My dad also taught me a bar trick this past weekend. He says it's a great way to get free drinks. Awesome! I can't rely on my stunning good looks forever!

I did not make it to Crossfit Monday. Way to sore and I knew I would need the use of my arms for the basement. I did get a 3 mile run with hills in on Sunday, though.

Crossfit

I've been rather sore this week. I spent Sunday kneeling in my foyer laying new flooring. Then, ripping it all out and laying it again on Wednesday. Wednesday's crossfit consisted of 3 squats till you maxed for strength and the WOD was a 5 min AMRAP of squat cleans and jerk. Consequently, my thighs are burning! And, not in a good (wink wink) way. Yesterdays 3 mile run on top of that left me almost unable to use stairs.
BUT......
Today's crossfit was kind of amazing for me. The strength portion was to max out on 1 deadlift. I came in at 195lbs! A PR for me! The WOD was 5 65%max deadlifts (135lbs), 7 handstand pushups, and 9 toes to bar, for 15min AMRAP. I was hessitant to do the HSPU (haven't done them since high school) and was set to do the modified version until I saw I would be the only one not doing the real thing. I gave it a try and I can do them again!!! I chickened out of the toes to bar and did it on the floor. I think next time I will try at least knees to elbows. I made it 7 rounds and all the way through the HSPU of round 8.

SUPER HAPPY!!

Progress

The Paleo diet is coming along pretty well. I've been able to follow it closely, with some minor cheats. Under "normal" circumstances I wouldn't have cheated but this week hasn't been "normal".

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!! And, I was sick.

Saturday I went out with a friend for drinks and dinner. It's super hard to eat paleo at a bar. Plus, the tequila may have been on the diet but the sprite that went with it was not. And, yesterday, my actual birthday my sister baked me a cupcake and the hibachi place added ice cream. If I'm going to be punished with a 20pt deduction in the competition, I'm going to get 20pts worth of cheating foods!

I weight myself today at the gym and I'm down 3#. I feel more like 5 and my mom guessed 7. If it stays this way I may make it a lifestyle and not just a 30 day challenge. I'll have to make a few changes, though. Paleo mayo is disgusting and I need a little bit of cheese and Greek yogurt in my life. I will try to keep the desserts to paleo, though. I found some on Pinterest that look good. I just have to wait till the challenge is over.

New Year

I know the new year is 7 days old but yesterday felt like my NEW YEAR. Several things happened....

dinner for the week
1) I started a 30 Day Paleo Challenge with my crossfit gym. Basically, we need to log our food everyday on Wodify and the trainers monitor it. If you adhere to the rules you get 20pts. You get 20pts for a crossfit workout. You lose 20pts for each meal you cheat. The food rules are no dairy, no legumes, no alcohol (except one glass of red wine), no bread, no sugar (including honey). It's kind of like Atkins but cleaner. The point system comes in because there will be a winner, who gets $100. At the start they take %bf, BMI, and weight, along with a bench mark WOD (15min AMRAP 50 burpees, 50 kbs, 50 wall balls, 50 pullups, I got through 25 pullups and felt like I was going to puke!). All that is repeated at the end and somehow scored. If this works out well for me, I may make it a lifestyle change. As it is, I hope it just cures my 1.5 year sugar addiction, ahem cupcakes.

2) I've written out a new workout plan that I started Monday also. Crossfit Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings followed by swimming. Running Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. And if I'm up for it indoor biking in the evenings on Tuesday and Thursday. I've made this plan before but I'm really going to try to stick to it now.

3) I got offered a new job!! I've been waiting all through Christmas and NYE to learn if I had it or not. It's kind of a lateral move for now but I hope it will be a step up in the future. I start in 2 weeks provided all the paper work goes smoothly. When I told my mom she wanted to know what I was going to do to celebrate. Normally, I would get a shake or a cupcake. Instead, I went home and was lazy for the night. Perhaps, I'll celebrate when my dad comes out in a couple of weeks. Beer, chicken wings, and a chocolate shake seem worth a loss of 20pts.

Promises in the Dark

"Never again, isn't that what you said?
You've been through this before
An' you swore this time you'd think with your head
No one, would ever have you again
And if takin' was gonna get done
You'd decide where and when
Just when you think you got it down
Your heart securely tied and bound
They whisper, Promises In The Dark."

Really this post is unrelated to Pat Benatar's song. I did however, make promises to myself in the dark last night and then broke them in the morning.

I promised I would run when I got up. I even laid out my running clothes. When my alarm sounded I was too warm and cozy under the covers to get out. Running on the treadmill in my cold, unorganized, half painted basement did not feel appealing. I promised myself I'd run Friday and then Sunday. But, again, those were promises made in the dark.

Whew!

December is over and that hopefully means I'll be able to get back to my normal routine. I spent about 10 days on "vacation" during Christmas and NYE. I use quotes because I wasn't anywhere sunny and tropical. I spent most of the time at my parents shoveling sugar into my mouth. Normally, I drink my coffee with just cream; at my parents I use cream and sugar. Normally, I drink almond milk; at my parents I drank 2% (my fault, there was almond milk there). Normaly, I don't eat cookies everyday; at my parents I ate 5! A DAY AT LEAST!! Normaly, I run 3 days and crossfit 3 days a week; not at my parents.

I am ready to meet 2013 and get back into my routine. getting back to running and crossfit will be priority ONE! Diet is priority 2. My crossfit gym is doing a 30day Paleo challenge and I'm going to give it a go. It should help with the sugar withdrawal and the carb crutch I've been having lately. I'm also going to get back into swimming and biking. I've set my bike back up on the trainer and once I get my basement back in working order (trying to finish the basement) I will be on it.

To help with swimming I got this nifty little stocking stuffer from my parents. I always have trouble remembering what lap I'm on. The lap timer will keep track of it for me. Can't wait to use it!

Dating: it's been really non-existant lately. I've given my number out to a guy and am waiting for him to make a move. Another guy that I went out with a couple of times last spring contacted me. At the time I felt like he wasn't interested but we'll see where this goes.
